Today, we’ll cover how to minimize and prevent joint and back pain while participating in summer activities.

Because of summer’s ideal weather, we have the ability to participate in a number of active and engaging outdoor activities. Don’t Try Anything You’re Not Properly Trained in or Fit Enough For

While trying new things and putting yourself outside of your comfort zone is part of what makes life so compelling, it’s unwise to try anything that may put yourself or your peers in danger. This applies to any activity that may require training or being at a certain fitness level in order to safely participate in. For example, climbing can be exhilarating and an excellent full-body exercise, however, it can also be incredibly dangerous – even for the most skilled of climbers. If you’re not in shape or have significant climbing experience, you should be free-climbing anytime soon. This principle can also apply to something as everyday as lifting weights or cycling; set realistic goals, or else you’ll be setting yourself up for injury.

Stretch-Out Before Exercising

Stretching out is proven to help reduce joint and back pain, seeing as it makes it easier to achieve our full range of motion during any physically demanding activity. This is one of the reasons why we see professional athletes being stretched out by their team trainers prior to a game. Stretching out also loosens up muscles, further reducing the risk of injury, specifically from tearing muscles such as the hamstring or groin.

Eat Foods High in Omega-3 Fatty Acids

One of the most common illnesses causing joint pain is arthritis, which, while technically a degenerative condition, people can alleviate many of its symptoms by enjoying a healthy diet. This especially applies to foods like salmon and walnuts, as these “superfoods” contain omega-3 fatty acids, which are proven to dramatically decrease inflammation and joint pain.
