Heart Health 101

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more than 610,000 Americans pass away from heart disease every year, making it the leading cause of death for both men and women. Therefore, it’s vital for everyone to do what they can to live a better lifestyle that keeps their heart healthy for as long as possible.

For smokers, this means quitting smoking as soon as possible. Don’t wait until next week, next month or next year. Instead, make a vow to yourself today that you just had your last cigarette and are on the way to living a smoke-free life! Protect your health and your blood vessels from the damage that smoking can do by giving us to call to learn about local programs that help with smoking cessation.

For couch potatoes, now’s the time to start getting up and moving! The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes (or 2.5 hours) of moderate exercise a week. Whether it’s taking your dog for a walk around Roseland Park or bike riding through Baytown Nature Center, just set some time aside to exercise for at least 30 minutes most days of the week.
